For your consideration is this unusual set of antique brass pocket or sliding door hardware. The backplates measure 14 x 3 5/8″ and the cast brass edge plate measures 7 7/8 x 1 7/16″. This set features a unique fold out round twist handle and recessed hand pull, almost in an arts and crafts style. Sadly one fold out handle and the bezel from behind it are missing. The lock set uses a standard door knob shaft so I’m sure it could be retro fitted with something acceptable. The whole thing retains an original old red brass surface. There is a company name on the lock but at this point I can’t make it out. It looks like a name in an oval. Please study the photos and ask any questions you may have. Restored lock pair – NORWALK pocket door locks from the 1800′s – 1900′s. Self aligning face plates with a unique fancy engraved type finish and design. The self aligning feature (to ensure the male and female lock would align) was only on the oldest of pocket door locksets as manufacturing costs prohibited them continuing into the 1900′s. Plain face locksets were the norm until the whole concept of pocket doors went away. The oldest homes on the east coast to the west coast have single or double pocket doors. This set is for a double pocket door set. The face plates, as you would imagine, are aged and the attention to detail in the manufacturing of these really shows. No equivalent product on the market today. Key operates the latch (one lock engaging the other part). One of my largest skeleton keys fit this lock perfectly including the slots to clear the small cast tab at the keyhole. Mounting holes on 6 3/4 centers. Face plates are 1 1/8″ wide x 1/8″ thick. Case sizes are both 5 3/16″ tall but one is 3 1/8″ deep and the other is 3 1/4 deep. All pop-out mechanisms work as you would expect. There is a spring inside each lock that applies tension to the “pop-out” handle. This keeps the handle inside the lock until you pop it out. Thanks for looking at this item and maybe you learned a little more about the history of these fine locksets.
