Restored lock pair – NORWALK Company pocket door locks from the 1800′s – 1900′s. Self aligning face plates with a unique fancy engraved type finish and design. The self aligning feature (to ensure the male and female lock would align) was only on the oldest of pocket door lock sets as manufacturing costs prohibited them continuing into the 1900′s. Fancy face lock sets gave way to the plain face lock sets which were the norm until the whole concept of pocket doors went away. The oldest homes on the east coast to the west coast have single or double pocket doors. This set is for a double pocket door. The face plates show the attention to detail in the manufacturing of these really ornate locks. No equivalent new product on the market today. Stunning detail – these are an art form for their day. Key operates the latch (one lock engaging the other part). One of my large collection of skeleton keys allows me to fit this lock perfectly and the mechanism works very smoothly. Mounting holes on 7″ centers Face plates are 1 1/4″ wide x 1/8 thick. Case sizes are both 5 1/4″ tall and are 3 an 3 1/4″ deep, respectively. These are for the narrow door application. All pop-out mechanisms work as you would expect. There is a spring inside each lock that applies tension to the “pop-out” handle. This keeps the handle inside the lock until you pop it out. Very clever design for these type of locks. Thanks for looking at this item and maybe you learned a little more about the history of these fine lock sets. Restored lock pair – RE Co. (Russell-Erwin Company) pocket door locks from the 1800′s – 1900′s. Self aligning face plates with a unique fancy engraved type finish and design. They also designed the locking jaw which is more secure than the single drop-down hook. The self aligning feature (to ensure the male and female lock would align) was only on the oldest of pocket door locksets as manufacturing costs prohibited them continuing into the 1900′s. Fancy face locksets gave way to the plain face locksets which were the norm until the whole concept of pocket doors went away. The oldest homes on the east coast to the west coast have single or double pocket doors. This set is for a double pocket door set and the patent date is October 23, 1883. The face plates, as you would imagine, are aged and the attention to detail in the manufacturing of these really shows. No equivalent product on the market today. Key operates the latch (one lock engaging the other part). One of my largest skeleton keys fit this lock perfectly and the mechanism works very smoothly. Mounting holes on 6 7/8 centers (note there are four holes on each plate). Face plates are 1 3/8″ wide x 1/8″ thick. Case sizes are both 5 1/2″ tall and both are 3 1/4″ deep. Wide (thick) door application due to the four mounting holes and the faceplate width found in the oldest of homes. All pop-out mechanisms work as you would expect. There is a spring inside each lock that applies tension to the “pop-out” handle. This keeps the handle inside the lock until you pop it out. Very clever design for these type of locks.
